The Bach Music Festival of Canada continues its fine tradition of showcasing the best musicians this country has to offer, while also hosting acclaimed International performers! We are thrilled to announce pianist Leopoldo Erice, on tour from his home country of Spain, will be opening the 2015 Bach Festival.
Performing for his first time with the Bach Festival, Erice will play the formidable and well-known ‘Goldberg Variations‘! Canadians are familiar with this great work, due to the world-renowned recording by Canadian pianist Glenn Gould. In fact, Gould, in his recording’s liner notes, refers to the piece as ‘one of the monuments of keyboard literature’.
Leopoldo enjoys a performing and teaching career, as well as a demanding tour schedule with performances through Europe, the two Americas, Asia, and Africa. He is currently Assistant Professor of Music at the American University of Sharjah (UAE), and this year is Guest Lecturer in Piano at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Canada).
Leopoldo has won several prestigious national and international prizes, including the “Ciudad de Albacete” and the “Acisclo Fernández”and has made recordings for television and radio programs in Spain, Argentina, Syria, and the USA.
Please join us in welcoming this talented artist in his inaugural performance with the Bach Music Festival! A wonderful way to kick-off our third season!
